10 Aug 2018 --- Single-use plastic shopping bags will be phased out over the next year, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Associate Environment Minister Eugenie Sage have announced. The move comes after 65,000 New Zealanders signed a petition calling for an outright ban. The Government will work alongside supermarkets and other retailers to help people make the change to reusable bags and have urged New Zealand businesses to come forward and pose suggestions for how best to achieve this goal.
