Weetabix treats the quality and safety of their products as their highest priority. This issue was raised by one scientist in Switzerland, who reported elevated levels of mineral oils in a number of food stuffs. However, following a further review of current available information, the food safety authorities in the UK, Germany and even in Switzerland have all concluded that this is not a health concern and no immediate action is needed.

Weetabix treats the quality and safety of their products as their highest priority. This issue was raised by one scientist in Switzerland, who reported elevated levels of mineral oils in a number of food stuffs.  However, following a further review of current available information, the food safety authorities in the UK, Germany and even in Switzerland have all concluded that this is not a health concern and no immediate action is needed.

As part of their environmental commitment Weetabix do use recycled packaging material and there is increasing pressure on the packaging industry to use more types of recycled material. One such material is recycled newsprint which has now been highlighted as a source of mineral oils. By working closely with their packaging suppliers, Weetabix have been able to source and are now conducting trials on alternate materials that do not contain recycled newsprint.
 
In addition to this, Weetabix will continue to be guided by the UK Food Standards Agency and other industry experts to ensure the safety and quality of their products.
