11 Apr 2024 --- Researchers have found that PP releases up to nine times more microplastics than polylactic acid (PLA) samples after 76 days of UV exposure. This indicates a higher fragmentation rate for PP, suggesting that PLA exhibits greater resistance to fragmentation under UV radiation. The study led by experts from the University of Portsmouth, UK and the Flanders Marine Institute, Belgium, looked at how two different types of plastic break down when tested in extreme conditions.
